Hello, we are looking onto getting a couple 7170. I have been a KIP tech for 6 or so years and as I read the posts I see the K system is much different, I am in the process of doing the training.
But I have a couple questions for the experts:
1. do the 7170's run on the new K system?
2.Can KIp request work on the Ksystem machine?

Thank You

Different is an understatement....

I've not heard of anyone updating the OS to K, I think it's only available from KIP with a new printer

Nope, no Request, Printpro only

the drivers are different also

I've never been wrong so the above is correct unless my wife reads this...

Thanks Mark,
So the 7170 printer does that ship with the K system?'Or maybe the 7170 is still running the older software? And I don't need to worry about that.
also can KIP PRINT work on the older software?

So Mark's wife doesn't have to get involved.

All new machines shipped from KIP are System K.
So a new 7170 will shipped from KIP with System K software.

System K is very different from the older IPS software. You will want to at least read up on it before doing an install.

As far as I know you can not update a non-System K (IPS) to a System K.

KIP Print is the IPS (old version)

KIP Print PRO is the current version file submitting program.

KIP Print Pro is NOT backwards compatible with either KIP Request or KIP Print.

We don't want Mark's wife or mine involved in any of this. I could only image my wife dealing with K system and IPS.
I promise I will have this down soon, one more question in the meantime. If we buy an older 7170 with the IPS in it can I upgrade to K system eventually? If not does it make any sense to buy a 7170 with IPS? Is Kip still gonna support and update the IPS system or is it out the door?

I am being redundant sorry. Is it worth buying a machine with the IPS system?

I believe a 7170 (non-K system) is still fully supported by KIP, so I don't think there would be an issue with support.

Is there a difference in print quality from the K system to the IPS system? I know that our in house 7000ips has a hard time printing a certain level of gray. Thank you all for your help.

The KIP 7000ips was a 600x600 dpi printer
KIP 7170 is a 600x2400 dpi printer
So the grey scales, shading and fine lines with be greatly
improved on any 600x2400 printer.

Sorry for late reply but I confirm the Kip 7170 is electornically different than the 7170K. It is not only the software that is different but also all the wiring and some pcb's inside the machine.

So you cannot update an IPS 7170 to an System K 7170K.

Kip will not update KS8 software (7170) but you will be supported.
