Hi all,
My 9800 compressor was running really hot, like burn your hands hot. I checked the oil level in the bubble and it was low but not bad. Maybe slightly above the MIN level line. Anyway I didn't trust it so I opened the cover and sure enough the thing was about dry. I was able to spin the compressor with no problem so it didn't freeze up. I put one bottle of oil in and now the bubble shows full but of course it isn't. I know under normal conditions you add oil until the bubble reads almost full with a small air bubble still visible. Since I can't do this, how much oil actually goes in there? Do I just fill it all the way to the top and can I use any good compressor oil? I have seen this happen before where the indicator is not accurate but that time the compressor froze up.

When I had a 9800 population I used Pacific Air Technology for rebuilds and service. Apparently they have made a name change.

You cannot use just any oil in these. We have less expensive oil we get from a Dental Supply company as Dentists use these types of compressors.

As for the level of Oil my understanding is you don't fill past the top of the bubble.

I have had compressors get hot and I think it was motor related not the pumping mechanism itself.
