Original problem was a ding on the drum so I replaced the drum. When I put it back together there were fading void areas about as big as my fist repeating about every 4 inches in a wavy pattern down the left and right side of the page. It happens with all paper sizes. I put the old drum back in since it was not doing this before and it did the same thing.
- I cleaned the led print head
- I rebuilt the developing unit
- I replaced the transfer/separation wires
- I replaced the Corona Wire
- I rebuilt the fusing unit
.....any ideas? |

It sounds like the Transfer/Separation Corona (below the drum). I have seen this issue on older equipment from KIP.
Inspect that unit. Check for toner buildup especially around the guide plate. And you might need to check and adjust wire height. _________________ "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten." - Benjamin Franklin and John Ruskin |

Did you check to see if the aluminum blocks that hold the drum are flush against the wall? If the blocks are not flush, it can make the drum "loop" when it rotates, creating a blank/void when the drum loops away from the paper. |

The transfer/separation corona looks very clean and as I said the wires have just been replaced. The height was not changed but I will double check to make sure it is correct.
The fact that it repeats down the page has me very baffled. |

Now I have replaced the Transfer/Separation assembly and I put a new grid on the charging corona assembly. Image is still disappearing from both side edges of the print, regardless of paper size. The overall image density seems to be dark and the washed out edges seem to be worse on a print with a lot of coverage. Maybe something to do with developer bias?
Any more ideas? I'm out. |

Possibly I have also seen something similar when the LED head is out of focus.
For the bias issue you could check the power supply. On a 6000 I had a cold solder joint on one of the connections to the bias and print quality was terrible and there were no shorts. _________________ "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten." - Benjamin Franklin and John Ruskin |
