I have had several mahines lately that are older and not just one had had the same problem with its roll feeding. Always backing out and always random. The most recent is the KIP 5000 spindles that all of the sudden back out the roll 1 and weather you load a new roll or not it seems to have had a brain melt trying to figure out if there is a new roll or old roll in there. when you first load it , if you are lucky enough that it stays in, it will say it is full roll.
when you print a little it then says it is half of what you origionally had on the new roll. I know that it is from the roll slipping on the core but i have done everything i know to resolve this. I hope someone will be like " HAY! i know that probelm and here is your fix" Please HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPP!

" HAY! i know that probelm and here is your fix" Please HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPP! I had the same issue and it turns out the cores, inside diameter, was slightly larger. The vendor swore I was crazy (not out of the question). I think the core supplier has QC issues but I couldn't prove it and eventually the problem went away. There is a gripper kit for 5k's and 3k's that solves the issue, taller gripper and stronger spring.

I've gone as far as getting a dremal and elongating the slide holes on the spindle so that the "teeth" have more upwards travel. Then I use a flat file to sharpen the "teeth" for better grip.

I have done that before too but they always don't just quite reach as high as it needs to be.

I use good ole duct tape on the spindles to make them a little bit bigger.

Sorry but I haven't put it in an official tech bulletin!!

If it can't be fixed with duct tape, it can't be fixed, right?
