Has anybody had to replace a Hard Drive in a 4020? My customer has one that we sold them and it now comes up with a blank screen and will not boot. This is the second time for this to happen. We replace the HDD about 3 months ago. Now the issue is back. Does anybody know of any other known issues with this machine that may be relative to this? |

I have seen customers corrupt the image on the hardrives by simply rebooting the machine at the wrong time.
The most likely scenerio for the hardrive becoming corrupt is when the printer "seems" like its stuck processing and the customer gets impatiant and decides to use the power switch in the rear or unplug the machine to reboot. the machine will take forever to process if for example the 4020 is not a "PS" model and the customer is trying to print ps files such as PDF's...
The other possibily is the customer has a power issue... again if the power is cut to the machine while it is "Processing" the chances are high the hard drive will become corrupt.
Also have you checked or replaced the cpu fan? the ones on the 4000 and 6100 seemed to have a 90% failure rate in the first two years of service and it took a long time for hp to replace the part with a better quality replacement. I had read the fan manufactuer states that fan should not to be used in a vertical mounted configuration.
It got to the point were I would buy better quality fans on newegg for $4 a piece and replace them on machine installation.
On that note...
Hewlett Packard used to provide replacement parts at no charge when it was discovered it was truly an engineering failure or defect.(like the media drive motor assy on the CP series machines when they were redesigned.
The new "HP" it seems does not agree... These fans as well as T and most Z series star wheel motors which would fail because of a defect in the older firmware that would activate it at the wrong time and sheer off the same nylon gear every time... They now ship the firmware on a thumbdrive with the new star wheel motor and ask that its updated with the motor explaining the older versions of firmware can cause motor failure... I've yet to see a motor that actually fails from something else.
I guess I'm just suprised they dont have a class action suites against them for repeadedly charging for repairs that they know are a result of an engineering defect. |
