|
|
Getting a very thin white line 1-5/8" left of center. There is a small scratch near center of glass (not where this line is) that will make a black line only when scanning 400dpi photo mode/sharpness+4; however this line shows at 200dpi line/sharpness 0. I started out scanning old whiteprints with blue background using the "invert" mode.
First few prints were fine then a black line started to appear, becoming solid after two more prints. I knew this wasn't the scratch because it was a negative image. Shading worked for two more prints then it came back and I couldn't get rid of it. My son suggested just scanning normal and inverting in Request (but I still need an inverted image CD) for the prints and then scanning the copies. Well now a white line makes it way from the very top of the print to the bottom and is obvious because of the black background. Shading is not working anymore. Neither did turning off the scanner and restarting it. Anyone know what causes a white line? _________________ Sheila, LADIBug |

This can be cause by dust there could be a small dust ball on one of the mirrors I would say break down the unit blow it out the clean all the mirrors shine light on the mirrors sideways to make sure there is no haze on them. _________________ Charlie

Charlie, thank you. I thought dust would make a black line like dirt on the glass does. Glad to hear it could be just dust. I'll give it a try-and pray I can get it apart and back together! _________________ Sheila, LADIBug |

i have had this issue with one of my scanners as well and it turned out to be the cpu pcb. but the best way is to try everything before putting that money into it.
clean the glass, mirrors, white balance, reseat cables.
if it was a scratch or dirt on the mirrors and lens it would be a bliack line. sounds like a stiching issue. white balance can fix this sometimes.
good luck |

Oh, I hope it is not the CPU PCB Well I've removed about 100 screws
and went to lift the glass off-duh, it does not want to move and I'm afraid of shattering it. Is it glued on? The manual just says "remove glass" and the post I found on here said "remove 3 end screws and the rest is self evident"- the glass is attached to the black metal plate right? The black metal pieces on the ends of the glass look like you just sort of lift them out and up-but it's not working. _________________ Sheila, LADIBug |

I had to take the back cover off too-so what is 14 more screws, right? According to page 4-68 in service manual you only have to remove 3+1 screws on the front of the plate. Putting it back together now and hope white line is gone. _________________ Sheila, LADIBug |

make sure and run the shading compensation (thats what its called if I remember correctly) in the service manual. We run our 2080 a ton and this needs to be run every six to 12 months on it... this will fix poor scan quality if a cleaning does not. |

Thank you everyone for your help. There ended up being 56 screws to get to the scanner glass, but praying and screwing around all morning fixed the problem. Another line started up tonight but running the shading got rid of it this time. With people e-mailing jobs I don't use the scanner regularly, wouldn't it figure this would happen when I got a nice
archiving job in? Thankful it was not a PCB. _________________ Sheila, LADIBug |
