Just tried to upgrade an 11b eprom to 13b.... just swaped them and powered up... The machine is now displaying an e-40 error code (cutter error)
Replaced the eprom with the original 11b and powered up... now showing the same error after a print.
The cutter is functioning perfectly, the door cover is not in the way or anything.
I am heading back out there to do a ram clear procedure with the new eprom.. my understanding was that that was only for a "counter" issue... Hopefully that will work... or I'll be back to check here for the solution...

Never upgrade a working machine. K mart is famous for adding new features (bugs) to their software and eproms. Remember the Powerprint cds that went out with a virus on them? Let someone else be the K mart test mule.

| The machine was printing that horizontal line 4 inches or so from the lead edge... Upghrading the eprom has worked for me to fix this issue... Today, we still have the cutter error with the old and the new chip... Waiting for word from KMart... any ideas would be beautiful... |

Sorry, didn' t realize there was a problem you were trying to fix with this EPROM. Good to hear it fixed that one. Sorry to hear you have a new one.
Can you put the machine into service mode and run the cutter back and forth? Can you mask the error and does the machine print?

We replaced the entire cutter unit because Kip asked us too.. to no avail...
THe cutter operates fine for one cut... After powering up... we can enter the service mode and operate the cutter fine for one pass... (also works fine for one copy out of service mode) then it errors out... We also verified that the machine is recieving the proper signals via the microswitches at both ends...(devise status mode)
I don't see the cutter error available to mask in the error mask mode in the service manual... am I missing something there???
It seems to me like a logic / main board issue to me... |

Correction... signal code 078 stays at "H" and never goes to "L" even they the switch is depressed...
this happens with 2 cuter units, so the problem is not the switch... We are going to try and short the circuit directly at the board next to see if we can get an "L"...
I will post the results shortly... |

| I think I found an error on the scematic... J204-6 to ground causes the left microswitch to actuate in the devise op mode... J204-5 makes no change... According to the scematic it is labeled opposite.. -6 being right and -5 being left... Anyways.. the fact of the matter is that 204-5 to ground does not change the devise status mode signal 78 or 79... (with the cutter itself positioned in the middle of course) |

| Still no answers from kip on this one... I tried to swap the main board with one I knew to be working... It has a 8a eprom on it. I installed that board and the machine makes all kinds of gear grinding noises at startup... The machine says it is checking the paper, but the paper never advances. There are at least two different areas the where the gears ar grindin on the left side... This makes no sense to me. Ichecked all of the connections twice, including putting back in the board with the 13 eprom and it powrers up normally until the first cut... We are swapping out the whole machine tomorrow morning as the customer is not happy... As soon as I figure it out I'll post the solution... |

| We replaced the motherboard and it fixed the problem. Board must be shorted out somehow after the eprom replacement. |
