Customer with a 3000; scanner is not picking up the image data on one CIS if the data is color. BW data is captured fine. Customer tells me the problem always occurs in the same area (horizontal) of the original, and only with color. Tomorrow they will email me a sample that illustrates the issue. In the meantime today they emailed me a test sheet - they took a blank 24"x36" sheet and scribbled lines across the sheet like waves up and down. The scan shows a distinct gap in the line that is captured. I'm told a copy is the same. I printed their scan and lined it up to the CIS units and the blank area fits the gap between the CIS units on the left side. I'm not a tech but this does not sound like a software issue, though it could be time for a simple calibration. If only that was something the end-user could do without taking off the back panel and connecting a laptop.

Has anyone had this problem before? If so, what was the fix? Might save our tech a trip out of the area and with parts we'd need to order.

I have seen this once. It is pretty rare. First, make sure the customer didn't get any white out on the glass. Sometimes that is overlooked.

From the sounds of it you will have to run all the scanner calibrations in the service manual. Make sure to run all the calibrations in order as it shows in the manual. It is not the easiest task if you have never done it, but it should fix the problem.

Good Luck.
