Has anyone experienced a 3000 giving an 'out of paper' message even though the roll may have 20-40 ft. of paper left on it?

I cut off a small portion of the tension spring on END of the paper spindle (it was too tight - that's why it comes up as empty before it actually is). There is also an adjustment for roll 1 where you can back off the position of the plate that's on the right side of the spindle (presumably, both these methods will accomplish the same goal, which is to make sure the paper goes to the end of the roll by lessening the pressure of the spindle spring on the END of the spindle). Hope this works for you.

I'll try first to loosen the black plastic socket that the spindle rests in on the right side. I see what you mean when you say that the spindle may have too much tension against the socket (with the deck drawer open, on the right side it is labeled 1).

I have a couple customers that I need to make an adjustment for. I'll report back after a week or so of testing.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I had a KIP Engineer in our office last week and I asked about this very issue. His reply was that it had to be the media.

Yes, I tried loosening the black plastic socket that the spindle rests in on the right side. However, I'm not sure if it was the socket or the media. The problem did seem to go away.

I had a KIP Engineer in our office last week . . .

That Engineer was Glen.
I asked him many questions. One in particular was what he thought of this very forum.

Tech Bulletin TB-K105-019:
There is a Shim (part #Z0380900BB) that fits between the drive side of the roll spool assy and the deck. There is no charge for the shim. Tech Bulletin give good directions as to how to install the shim.

Also note. The rear roll on a two roll unit uses the all the paper on a 36" roll without any problems. This suggests that the approach angle of the paper on the front roll is too steep, thus causing excessive drag.
