|

got a 3000, (our only one) making a thick black line, measured at 8 1/4 inches width.
this looks exactly same width as one of the CIS arrays. this line does not appear from internal test prints. it shows on the display while scanning.
i caught a couple of prints where the line appeared, full width, but only a quarter inch high, and about 18 inches apart when two appeared.(from a scannned image)
this problem showed up right after i removed a fan to check for noise, and put it back.
no way did any other cables get disturbed during fan check.
any advice appreciated. i have the manual, and parts source. TIA. |

Try to do a white balance on the scanner before anything else. It could be a bsd CIS. Try the balance first. That's free. _________________ What we have gained in technology, we have lost in humanity. |

thanx, kipdoctor! went back and switched places with the suspect CIS unit and the one on the far right. the problem followed, moving to far right. the good news--- customer can now scan at least 24 inch docs until parts arrive.

went back monday to replace the cis unit, customer says "it's fine now"
What? so i checked it, sure enough, the entire scan width is okay.
i don't trust this situation, i think the black will come back. saving the part, will wait & see........ |
