Lines length and width is a bit confusing. Moving on, there aren't too many causes for a sharp line.

Dirty CIS glass
Crud on the printhead
Wires
Scratched drum

Can you post a photo of the defect?

Does it do it when printing from Request or Printnet?

Have you tried updating or re-installing the driver? Is the driver set for GL or KIPscript?

This is an odd one.

The only time I've ever seen random vertical and horizontal (and even diagonal) "digital" lines are when GL and Script are selected against what the file requires.

Are the test prints, the sample prints out of the UI or are you sending a test print from the WPD? Not sure why they'd show up on internal test prints.

yes happens on both and also happens on internal test prints!! The lines are in the verticle direction. We have also taken the ips from this machine TO another 7100 for testing and the same lines appear on the internal test prints of the tested machine !!!!

So it's definitely a digital line image being created in the controller (software). I guess I would try to reghost the controller. AS long as the issue moves with the controller, I would probably go this route. You can try to reset back to factory in the service mode or just go ahead and ghost from dvd.

Cheers dlee, It was in fact the software, checked some bulletins regarding serial number cut ins/ IPS types regarding correct software versions and it seems we had too high a system software 7. 4. 794.01.??? We went with version 7.4.544.01 and the problem is solved. This is a unit we picked up for refurbishing and sale so the HD was either changed or had this new version that was causing the issue!! Thx Guy's this place rocks.
