We have 2 c7800's (so far) where one of the process units gets stuck (one is Cyan and the other Magenta). Yes even when the printer is off and the rear door ajar. The only way to get it to release is to tug on the handle while lightly tapping on the drum shaft with a hammer. As a result the counter roller on the RH side (of the dev assy tends to suffer damage and usually break. To me this is an indication of what is holding it from coming out, but I can't see what it is. The whole dev assy has been replaced at one time so it can't be that.
Ideas?

Are the areas at the rear of the drum where it intersects with the drum shaft lubricated?
Another spot, we have this issue on some of the small format machines, that have slide out CMYK units. On some, if I have a tech that thinks he is superman, likes to shove the imaging unit in with enough force to slam it through the machine. The front edge of the drum shafts will be tiny little burrs that will cause the image units to stick. After using a piece of scotch brite to clean it, I'll apply a drop or two of moly 100 to the ends of the shafts, to keep them from sticking. Sometimes, the inside raceways of the bearings will get bent, requiring replacement. Might be worth a look.
