Have a 9900 in our shop and the unattend isn't coming up. The icon is there, but it won't work. Any ideas?

Run a check disc on both the C & D drives. Select automatically fix errors. Usually fixes 90% of Unattend loading issues.
Also check the Unattend .ini file and make sure it is not blank.

.ini file was blank, any ideas on how or why does that happen? I was also told later that the printer was just "shutting off" without the power button being flipped. I used an old .ini file, until I can reghost, and it works fine; no weird power down.

The blank .ini file may indicate a failing HD. I've gotten into the habit of running CHKDSK w/repair at least every visit or two. I also clear out the request and problem folders every call. May be a little overkill but the random oddball problems have almost disappeared from our gear in the field.

This was a quirk of the older versions of Unattend. This has been remedied with newer versions. The newer versions will inspect the .ini file prior to fully opening the software; if it is found to be blank/short, then the backup or last known good version will be loaded and the software will start normally.

Running a check disk isn't a bad idea, but usually this isn't the culprit. Typically it is the power down sequence and Unattend not closing properly.
