Hello everyone. We have a customer in a remote area with possible power issues. Thinking of purchasing a good power conditioner to see if it helps with the issue so I thought I would ask you fine folks here if you have any recommendations for a good power filter/conditioner.

In case anyone is wondering the equipment having issues is an old Oce TDS 100 that prints ok for the first few copies then starts getting really light.

Thanks you for any assistance.

If it was a KIP, I'd say to get the ones that KIP sells. At least if it doesn't work and/or damages your printer, you can say that KIP backed up the product by selling it. So that they can't say you bought a cheap product and not warranty or help you with it.

ESP at one time had a warranty that covered a loss up to $25k (it's been a while). However unless there is a huge difference in cost I'd would take dlee's advice.

Doesn't appear to be limited to $25k

ESP Lifetime Warranty
Our products include a protection guarantee that safeguards connected equipment and provides coverage for power related “Acts of God”- for life!

ESP’s Lifetime Protection Guarantee is the most comprehensive guarantee in the industry and provides complete peace of mind. If your ESP product fails, even from catastrophic power surges and lightning, and fails to protect your properly connected equipment, ESP will:

•Replace the ESP product within 24 hours, no questions asked
•Repair or replace your damaged connected equipment
•Pay for parts, travel, and labor costs incurred
We cover all repair costs for connected equipment, up to the full replacement value of the equipment if a properly connected filter fails. Now that’s Professional-Grade Protection!

Actually it is ESP, but it's sold by KIP. It is KIP Technical Bulletin TB-General-038c. There are 3 different models. It says that ESP holds all warranties, but it's a step in KIPs direction if you buy it through them.

KIP Technical Bulletin
Bulletin Number TB-General-038c
TO: ALL TECHNICAL PERSONNEL
MODEL: All KIP Devices
RE: Line Voltage - Issues
DATE: January 19, 2009
KIP Printers, Copiers, Folders and Scanners are complex electro-mechanical products
with complex and sophisticated circuitry. Electrical disturbances can cause logic failure
of the microprocessors in these systems. It is important that these systems be placed in
a stable, clean electrical environment so that they can operate as they are designed to
perform.
Electronic Systems Protection (ESP) manufactures the Digital QC device. This Digital
QC device has the ability to:
− help minimize ground noise
− assist in the prevention of damage due to power surges or lightning
ESP devices comes complete with a guarantee that promises repair or replacement to
any damaged equipment caused by a severe power surge or lightening struck while
using a properly installed ESP QC device.
Use of the Digital QC device may result in:
− more system up-time
− Prevention in error codes, mis-feeds, or other system related issues
caused by electrical disturbances which may reduced service calls.
The Digital QC device may be considered as a tool to help minimize service calls due to
various electrical supply issues as it may help protect against damage to PCBs and
other electrical components caused by line surges.
These devices are now available from KIP.
Part Number Description
EQAC100 120VAC-20 with network & 2 recpt (D5143NT)
EQAC101 220VAC-20 with network (E524ZNT)
EQAC102 120VAC-15 with network & 2 recpt (D5133NT)
Please note that ESP holds all warranties (www.realpowerprotection.com).
KIP Tech Support

I believe the 120VAC are about $199 and the 220VAC is just over $200.

I use the ESP protectors and have nothing but good things to say about them. Had one on a KIP 6000 and the building had a direct lightning strike. Fried everything in the building but the KIP. Computers, NiC cards, phones, fax, etc.

It fried the protector and I sent it back and they sent me a new one.

It needs to be said that these devices are filters, not conditioners. There is a huge difference in purpose and cost, with the conditioner being very costly. If you just need surge and spike protection then the ESP products are a superior solution. If you're dealing with low voltage and brownouts look for a line conditioner.

We use these too...unfortunatly it seems the company sold out recently and the newer units are made in china and have a higher failure rate...I have been using thse for 15 years and not one issue until the last couple years...I have had about 7 or 8 fail in the last year and a half or so. just had the network port fail on one last month.
ESP will replace them free of charge though...

Many of those products are no better than a Band Aid.

If you want your power troubles to end you need to contact TSI Power. The owners name is Nam Paik.

He has excellent pricing and if you are reselling to your customer he will give you a discount.

What you want to get from him is the Automatic Voltage Regulator. He builds them custom for the machine you are using. You get him a Wall power reading and the specs for the machine you want to power and he builds it for you.

This is the company that builds the Surge Suppression units on all the Cell towers to handle lightning strikes.

If you don't need Voltage Regulation then get his Line Conditioners. Again he will size it proper to your situation.

Their site is here: http://www.tsipower.com/

Doing Buck/Boosters or cheap line conditioners won't save you money in the long run. You will get calls for weird crap all the time.

Enjoy!

Instead of ESP, try Innovolt
