OK, my printer is printing light on the left side (if you are standing where the paper drawers are, looking towards the back of the machine). It only goes about 2" in from the edge on a 36" roll. I've cleaned the LED, refurbed the dev. unit, replaced the supply roller, then replaced the dev. roller, flipped the drum, swapped T/S assy. The only thing I haven't swapped is the charge assy and the fuser, but I don't think they are the cause, which means that they probably are, knowing my luck.
With what I've done, the entire image on the paper prints like it's a new machine except for this one section. What am I missing here? |

Dlee,
Sounds kinda like the dev assy causing it. Can you swap another dev unit with this one to verify? |

Yup, I did that also. The lightness was still there, not as light but still there. After replacing the supply and dev. roller and flipping the drum, the imaging has improved a lot. There are just really slight washouts where you can tell the lettering and images are lighter on that side but everything is legible. Not 100% but getting there. I have also confirmed that that side has enough toner, so we know it's not starved of toner on that side. |

I had one where I hadn't cleaned the exhaust filters for a while, the prints were lite on left side, and it seemed to run warmer than usual to the touch (of the left side fuser vent panel).
After cleaning the packed filters it was ok.
Probably not related to your problem but maybe something to check. |

Any chance the developer unit is not seating close enough to the drum on one end, as if the shaft and cam that moves it may be bent? |

If you haven't, take a flashlight and mirror and confirm that the lens is film free....... _________________ Regards,

Just got in the office. Yesterday, I did notice that after running for a short time, approx. 20 prints, it gave me a over-temp error. I'll have to check those filters.
I took the entire LED assy out and cleaned the lense, even used a pencil eraser to gently scrub the lens...everything looks good and clean. |

i have removed all of the filters from all of our 8k's, a move KIP would likely disapprove of (ozone concerns) _________________ Regards,

I had one doing the same thing and it ended up being the head was just getting weaker on one side. If you have another 8000 swap the head and see if the problem moves with it. |

No, I swapped just about everything out and nothing has changed. We have 2 other 8000s and 2 KIP9000s and a KC80, so it's kind of been put to the side for now. I will post when I am able to get it figured out. Sorry. |

I just actually tried swapping out the LED head unit with another 8000 we had as suggested above & that was the problem. Thankfully the 8000 I pulled it from is one we kind of just use as an extra because that is not a cheap part! |

Have you tried swapping the head between machines? _________________ "If you mess with a thing long enough, It'll break" |

Use 99% alcohol to clean the L.E.D. head. I would not scrape or otherwise use anything but a soft towel to clean it with. Those L.E.D. heads are built in sections about 12 inches each so the likelihood of just two inches going south is uncommon!
Good luck!
