We have a kip 5000 at a Base that will not allow any XP Operating Systems when on Base once Microsoft stops support next spring. We all know XP embedded has does not receive updates anyway so support or no should make absolutely no difference security wise. But that's our military's policy.

Kip is no help with this issue. I plan to try using windows 7 XP Mode as I have great success with it running incompatible software. But I have limited access to this machine to experiment with it.

Has anyone else yet experience with this type of work around?

For the purposes of printing only I just need a compatible Nic. Standard drivers should suffice for everything else. Just concerned about the monitor. May need more memory.

Unless someone else has tried it, can't know til I try I guess.

We can't compete in a price bid, and if they upgrade likely they will go GSA, so we will just lose the contract. That's why I'm trying to salvage it, rather than push upgrade.

XP Mode is a virtual machine and will likely not work; it isn't a physical machine. This means that any device drivers will be very limited. Also, the KIP IF card does not play well with most chipsets. Plus, where are you going to get the drivers for the IF card? Where are you going to get the install for unattend and touchscreen, etc?
