|
|
Hello all,
Having some trouble loading a base firmware getting a reception error when attempting to load through serial port. Have been following the steps correctly, just wondering what base firmware I should be using.
The problem originated when we wiped everything out trying to get the passwords reset, but in the process wiped out the firmware. It just reads N/A where the firmware version should be. Nothing will print, it just comes up with an error.
Let me know if you have a direction I should take in getting it loaded back up.
Thanks |

Have you tried to reghost it off a dvd? That would probably be my first step. |

Humm, let me ask you something...are you trying to re-write the firmware in the hardware (main PCB) ??
Cause there is should not have any password in there...so if you tried to reset password, it should be the one in the software ?? If so, you can do what dlee says, take the latest 7.X software recovery DVD and start from scratch and don't forget to update it. The Kip 3100 can accept 7.2.348 as it's the latest patch. |

That site seems to have all the tag-a-long software like the windows print driver, firmware updates and miscellaneous software. But I am referring to Re-ghosting, meaning rewriting your entire hard drive to a new and clean software version. There should be a DVD taped to your controller, but I don't know how old your 3100 is so it could be an outdated version OR you can contact KIP and see if they'll send you a 7.2 reghost dvd. Then you'll need a USB DVD player and connect it to your controller and reghost your controller. But let's concentrate on getting a DVD before we move on to how to reghost.
I just hope you don't mean REQUEST because you keep mentioning passwords. |

Yeah dlee, your right.
@ Gregryjb, Can you tell us exactly where the machine ask you a password ??
Again, you still saying a firmware...for us, the firmware is for controlling the hardware of the machine and that doesn't need any password.
The software (on DVD or factory restore) is for the IPS controller and this control the software on the display...this one have a password to access to service mode.
Like dlee says, there is a software called Request or newer one called Print, those software are installed on workstation/client PC are those can have password too. |

Ok fellas, I think I led you guys a stray with mentioning a password. The password was for the web interface, thats all. This was the reason we set it back to factory defaults but now the machine doesn't seem to know the firmware version unless we wiped it out in the process.
Aside from the password, I do need a reghosting dvd from somewhere. KIP doesn't want to help because we are not an authorized KIP dealer. Do you guys by chance have an .iso or possibly rip it and somehow send it?
Re-imaging seems to be the best bet at this point. |

There is a dip switch on the main board that needs turned on. I believe the board is on the left side of the machine. DSW1 has two switches. 1 should be on and 2 should be off. flip 2 on to get it to connect via the serial cable. If you are doing that, then you need to check your computer and make sure the serial is working correctly.
The version on the KM site should work fine - 116X08A.mot
And the confusion is because you say you wiped out the firmware. You have to REALLY try to wipe out the firmware. How exactly did you accidentally wipe the printer firmware while erasing the passwords on the controller?

I think you are talking about the touchscreen interface not showing the firmware version, not the printer itself. The printer would more than likely have an error shown on the LCD (lower right portion of the printer). The touchscreen is trying to communicate with the printer and for some reason it cannot, so it isn't showing a firmware version when you select the ? (help screen).
My guess is the wrong version of ghost image was used. This would cause the wrong version of the printer software to be loaded, and thus the printer firmware will not show. |

I guess I'm just trying to make sense of it all. When you turn on the printer, how long do you leave it on for after you notice the N/A next to the Firmware Version? I have many build sheets (the sheet that prints out when you hit "Print This Screen") where the firmware version says N/A on it and I've never worried about it. I've never given it much thought since printing was never affected, and eventually the firmware will show up.
To delete the PW for PrintNet (web interface) all you needed was to delete them in Request, there are a few things you'd need to do in order to get them deleted but other than within PrintNet's Accounting Data page and Request, I don't see any other way to delete the PW, nor is there a way to delete a firmware through these channels.
If you have a laptop/desktop connected to the KIP via the serial port, it seems you have the instructions to add, update the firmware already, as you stated in your original post. |

This is what we did:
Restore Factory Hard Drive Image
After that, there is no firmware showing on the ? screen where the machine info is.
It shows:
Software Version: 1.3.144
Firmware Version: n/a
Printer EPROM:
......
......
It will not take the codes we give it for the functions due to the firmware being n/a. I don't have a problem paying for a restore DVD if someone has one they can offer.
We had no idea how to reset it but spoke with someone who said that restoring the factory image through the Service tab would be fine to reset the web interface password in the process. The KIP was able to copy and print before that and now it will not copy or print because we cannot get the machine to save the codes that we have been manually putting in to get it back to the way it was.

So, the deal is that Unattend (the program "under" the touch screen) is not communicating properly with the printer.
If you close down the touch screen software and look at the Unattend software, it should give us an indication as to what is going on with the printer/IPS. |

Does the machine have paper in it? I am fairly sure it will not take the codes unless it has paper loaded.
