OK, so there is no section for a KIP600 scanner so since it sits on top of the 5000 and uses the 5000 IPS, I"ll ask my question here.

Why is it that when we COLOR SCAN-TO-FILE, there is always background. I have a customer that has this setup and no matter what setting they use (the few that there is) it always shows background. Most of it is on the right side as if one of the CIS is scanning darker than the rest.

I don't know if this might have anything to do with it but if I go into Service Mode, the White Balance button is grayed out.

This may be a stupid question, but could that icon be grayed out because there is no calibration sheet installed? I think that takes a different sheet than the one that comes with the 3000s. I think it has black and white areas on the correct sheet. If the CIS sensors are clean I don't know what else there is to do besides the shading, but I know any time you can in color most scanners will pick up the background believing it is part of the image. Does changing the density in the copy setting does it help?

I know when i half to calibrate a 600 scanner i half to hook up my lap top to it and use the kip utility like you do when you calibrate a 300 scanner.

The 5000 can use either a 600 or 600a scanner. You can not calibrate these scanners from the service menu. You need to install the utility and run it from the desk top or use a laptop. The calibration sheet for a 600 is different than a 600a.
Have you tried to use a different mode to do your scans? Photo line mode usually will have some back ground, line mode does not.
