My youngest is picking up a new Glock 26 4th gen this week and asked my opinion on the matter. I don't have an opinion on the 9mm cause I don't care for the round. If it isn't 45acp it isn't big enough. And that applies to CCW also..........

| Mark personally I'm a BIG fan of the 45 ACP in a 1911 config also. If he is looking for a good home defense round that will get the job done I would suggest Hornady T.A.P. ammo. My wife carries a 9mm, & 40 cal. using both of those rounds. If he finds that his Glock is "PICKY" on ammo he can also try the Power Ball. It is shaped like any ball ammo with a ceramic ball inbeaded in the hollow point. On both of these rounds we have done Gel Tests with a great penatration & expansion. Check into it & see what you think for yourself. I feel quite comfortable with my wife carrying these in her guns with out having to worry about enough knock down power. Hope this helps you. |

Thanx RMS. I'll forward your words to him and let him make the call. About a month ago he aquired a Wilson CQB 5" in 45 also. Nice shooter but I like both my Smiths better. There's no substitute for cubic inches.

| That's Funny that he has a Wilson CQB, I have a couple of custom production tournament guns they built me. They shoot pretty good for a Production Gun. My favorite is still my STI Race guns!!! No recoil, & site aquadition is par to none!!! Tell him to keep shooting!!! |

Interesting how things keep coming around. I used to carry Hydrashok when we weren't killing targets and at the time the Federals were "unbeatable". After all these years, if you look around, the Hydrashoks still rate very well in most gel tests and the FBI still thinks highly of them. I started using ball after the pond scum, lawyers, started juries thinking that anyone using anything other than ball was a premeditated killer. I have since made the decision to return back to what always worked and keep one for the pond scum. God I miss the days when you could buy new/surplus AP 30 06 for a nickle and play all day for a couple of bucks. Sounds like an old man huh.........And I am going to start feeding the house gun TAP's based on your feedback and that of others. I see the main advantage being the reduced flash and the decent HP round. I pity da fool that crosses my doorstep uninvited....Talk about premeditated

I was asked awhile back why I carry a 45. Pretty simple, they don't make a 46.
BTW - I still have some Winchester Ranger SXT's. |

Your message made me smile. As I said earlier, there's no substitute for cubic inches. When you only have 6, I always under load, gun control is uber important. Double stacks are for people that don't practice often enough...........

Yep, not a fan of the 9mm or even more so of .380. All personal preference though. Just like, I am not a Glock fan - or Oce. Had to throw that in there  |

In case you're interested, he/we settled on Hornady Critical Defense. At the moment they're easier to find on the shelves. But given a choice, I'd still load up with Federals......

I have finally decided that the best defensive load for a 9mm is a 45 acp....And Sportsman's Guide is stocking Hydrashoks at a decent price so all is well in my world.
