Have you tried a different roll and brand of paper? A lot of times a wrinkling problem is due to poor quality paper. We sell only Dietzgen/Sihl paper that works the best.

Hey Al, The exit roller is driven by a belt on the left rear of the scanner. There's both a belt drive and a cluster of 3 gears back there on the left. Look on page 33 of the latest parts manuals.
