I had the same issue on another 7100 scanner. I connected my laptop using the same scanner utility as for the 3100 (version 1.51) and that took care of the problem.

To date I've had 3 motherboards for Kip controllers reworked with new capacitors with 100% success. I left him 1 more today to have rework.
